PIANIST/ACCOMPANIST
Petra Milarová, a classical Czech/British pianist, has performed both as a soloist and a collaborative musician across the UK and Europe. She has performed concertos with the Czech Pilsen, Janáček and Olomouc Philharmonic Orchestras, the Turkish Haccettepe Symphonic Orchestra and the English Wyre Forest and Wolverhampton Symphony Orchestras. Petra has featured in performances with the National Theatre in Prague, British Isles Music Festival, California Summer Music, Ambassador’s Concert Series in Prague as well as at the Wigmore Hall in London and has recorded a CD for InnoVatio.
Petra has won prizes at international piano competitions: Concourse Musicale de France 2012, Cittá di Barletta - Young Pianist Prize and Chamber Music Prize in Italy 2011, Smetana International Piano Competition in Pilsen 2010, Beethoven International Piano Competition in Hradec 2003 and Chopin Piano Competition in Marienbad 2001.
After having graduated from the Janáček Conservatoire in Ostrava in 2004 (studied with Prof. Monika Tugendliebová), Petra attended Musikhochschule in Luzern, Switzerland, where she obtained a Concert Diploma with honours and the Edwin Fisher Prize. She continued her studies at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague as a student of Prof. Ivan Klánský and graduted with a Master’s degree in 2011. After having moved to the UK in 2012, Petra studied at Birmingham Conservatoire with Prof. Margaret Fingerhut (post master's) and won first prizes in the Peter Donohoe, John Ireland and Renna Kellaway piano competitions. During her studies Petra attended masterclasses in Europe and USA with Garrick Ohlsson, Arakdi Zenzipér, Jenő Jandó, Peter Donohoe, Avo Kouyoumdjian and others.
PIANO TEACHER
Petra has been teaching piano for almost twenty years. She has helped many pupils and students of all ages succeed in their graded exams and Diplomas, or just enjoy the music for their own pleasure. A few of her graduates have continued to study music at RCM, Oxford, RNCM and other conservatoires and universities. Petra's students often perform in concerts, festivals and competitions. Petra started teaching piano at the International School of Music and Fine Arts in Prague (2005-2012) and continued at the Prague Conservatoire as a second study tutor (2009-2012). After relocating to the UK she worked at Wolverhampton Grammar School (2013-2015), Repton School (2013-2019) and Repton Preparatory School (2013-2018), later at Lichfield Cathedral School (2018-2019) and the junior department of Royal Birmingham Conservatoire (2014-2022).
Petra currently teaches part-time (piano, aural tuition and 'Healthy Movement and Postural Awareness for Musicians' classes) at the All-Steinway LSF Music School in Loughborough and runs a small private practice for more advanced students (LE11). She has adjudicated piano competitions at Loughborough Schools Music, Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, and the online Mahler Piano Prize.
